He might not have been aware of Phumelela ‘The Truth’ Cafu’s move to Johannesburg, but that has not stopped boxing trainer Miniyakhe Sityata from wishing the Duncan Village boxer all the best after he joined Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan’s Hot Box Gym.
Sityata was in the dark and didn’t know that Cafu, whom he had been working with since July 2022, had bolted out of their stable until he saw a photo of the South African junior-bantamweight champion together with Nathan on social media.
“We spoke about his decision. And I told him that it’s solely his decision. That was after I saw a photo of him and Colin on Facebook. I then wished him all the best. I mean things like these happen in boxing,” Sityata remarked.
Sityata was in Cafu’s corner for the last time when he stopped Enathi Stelle in 26 seconds to win the then vacant SA junior-bantamweight title in December. Interestingly, Sityata is also a former SA junior-bantamweight champion.
Meanwhile, Cafu is rated 11th by the World Boxing Council (WBC), seventh by the World Boxing Association (WBA), fourth in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) ratings and is third in the World Boxing Organisation (WBO). – Monwabisi Jimlongo
