Westbury-based boxing trainer Bernie Pailman is happy with Luyanda ‘Pretty Boy’ Ntwanambe’s progress and is not willing to rush him into action as he believes that there’s still more that they have to work on at the gym.
Duncan Village-born Ntwanambe is yet to lace his gloves in just over four years with his last fight having been a loss to Jackson ‘M3’ Chauke in a South African flyweight title contest in Gqeberha in April 2021.
Ntwanambe weighed more than 65 kilograms when he arrived at Pailman’s gym and has worked very hard, shedding some weight. He’s now weighing under 56kg and Pailman is determined to make sure that Ntwanambe reaches the junior-bantamweight class.
“Everything is on track. His weight is still on 55 kilograms, down from 68 when we started. I want to bring him down to the junior-bantamweight and we will then see if we can’t go back to flyweight,” Pailman said.
Ntwanambe helped Siyamthanda Wophela with sparring sessions before his fight against Mthobeli Quvile. Wophela outpointed Quvile at the Box Camp Booysens in Johannesburg last month.
“I have had good sparring sessions for him for two months. He even sparred with Wophela before his fight last month. He looks sharp and I’m very happy with him,” Pailman remarked. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
