Finally, Boxing South Africa (BSA) has had enough of errant boxer Asemahle ‘The Predator’ Wellem and acted after he consistently defied the fistic regulator and went to fight in Tanzania without a clearance.

The Chintsa-born Wellem is now a former champion after BSA stripped him of the SA super-middleweight title and also suspended his licence. Wellem lost his title without defending it having won it after he stopped Cowin Ray at Time Square, Pretoria, in October 2022.

He was put on precautionary suspension after he violated sub-regulation 16 of BSA’s regulations of 2004.

“Wellem’s provisional licence has been suspended, pending the outcome of a formal disciplinary hearing. As a result of this suspension, the national title has been declared vacant,” a BSA statement said on Friday morning.

Wellem has been fighting in Tanzania without having been cleared by BSA. He started defying BSA when he went to fight in the East African country against Frank Shagembe in December last year despite being on an automatic 90-day suspension following his eighth round stoppage loss to Australian boxer Conor Wallace in Australia.

Still not cleared by BSA, Wellem left South Africa to fight against Jacob Maganga two months ago. And he faces Nigerian boxer Idowa Mustorpha Rasheed in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania, on Saturday.
