Uncertainty around Kay B Promotions’ tournament, which is scheduled for this coming Sunday, has been cleared following Monday’s meeting between Boxing South Africa (BSA), promoter Mzi Booi and his lawyers.

As a result of the meeting, BSA together with Booi, Kay B Promotions boss, are going to release a joint statement regarding the tournament set for the Guild Theatre in East London.

At issue was a big misunderstanding between Booi and BSA provincial manager in the Eastern Cape Siya Vabaza-Booi. The misunderstanding centred around Sunday, 2 November, having been earmarked for a Women in Boxing show, which failed to materialise while Booi had pencilled the date for what is going to be his last tournament of the year.

Ink Sport reached out to BSA chief executive officer Tsholofelo Lejaka whose only comment was that there’s no crisis around the tournament.

Sunday’s tournament is going to be headlined by a clash between highly-rated Bongani Fule and former South African featherweight champion Jeff Magagane.

With four knockouts in seven wins, Fule, who’s rated number two in South Africa, dished out a good performance when he stopped his Makhanda homeboy Siphesihle Mpolweni in the fourth round at the same East London venue in August.

On the other hand, unbeaten knockout specialist Lonwabo ‘Monster’ Sizani from Mdantsane will also be in action in the same tournament as he faces Gqeberha-born Aphelele Magobiyane.

Sizani has won all his four fights with knockouts and his last victim was Malibongwe Balakisi whom he stopped in the first round at the Guild Theatre in August.

Magobiyane’s last fight was a stoppage win over Njongo Skweyiya in Kariega eight months ago. Magobiyane has won twice with stoppages and lost once. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
