Sharadene Fortuin retained her South African female bantamweight title following a unanimous decision win over Thema Zuma at the SN Boxing Gym in Diep River, Cape Town, on Sunday evening.

Fighting most of the rounds with a cut about her left eye, Fortuin fought beautifully as she made a successful third defence of her crown. There were moments, especially in the early rounds, when it looked like Fortuin was going to stop Zuma.

Judges Oscar Noels and Elroy Marshall had Fortuin winning by 99-91 while the Seymour-born champion won by 100-90 on Sivuyile scorecard.

Meanwhile, this was the second time Fortuin defeated Zuma as she did the same when they fought for the then vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Intercontinental bantamweight title in December 2018.
