Nhlanhla ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ Tyirha’s dominance over Filipino boxers continued as he defeated Arnel Lofranco at the SN Boxing Gym in Diep River, Cape Town, on Sunday evening.
After 10 rounds of action where both fighters kissed the canvas, Tyirha emerged victorious with a points decision as he annexed the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental minimumweight title.
Just like his Filipino compatriots Orrie Silvestre, Esneth Domingo, Jaysever Abcede and Joey Canoy, Lofranco failed to beat the former South African junior-flyweight champion.
Meanwhile, this was the Mdantsane-born Tyirha’s third victory of the year in four fights – he only lost to Zimbabwean boxer Beaven Sibanda.
