Former South African junior-bantamweight champion Yanga ‘Showtime’ Sigqibo will dust the cobwebs as he has a date with Ghanaian boxer Michael ‘Black Spider’ Abban.

Duncan Village-born Sigqibo is scheduled to collide with Abban in a World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African junior-bantamweight title fight in Accra, Ghana, on Friday, 21 August.

“We signed the fight contract a while ago. We are going to fight for the WBA Pan-African junior-bantamweight title. Already, we have watched some of his videos and we picked up that he’s a very good boxer with a good record,” Sigqibo remarked.

Sigqibo has not fought since his sixth round technical knockout win over Tanzanian opponent Msabaha Salum Msabaha at the Orient Theatre, KuGompo City, in August. Sigqibo has been around the block, having notched 19 victories with six knockouts, three defeats and a draw.

Born in Accra 23 years ago, Abban will go to the Sigqibo fight on the back of five successive stoppage wins. The Ghanaian southpaw has a professional record of 14 wins with 10 knockouts and one loss. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
