Damien Durandt is impressed with how Brandon Thysse’s preparations have been going ahead of his fight against Frenchman, Milan Prat, as the two boxers are only left with two weeks before they trade blows in France.
Thysse, the reigning South African junior-middleweight champion, meets Prat in a vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-middleweight title at the Barriere Casino, Enghien-les-Bains, on Thursday, 15 October.
“Preparations have been going really, really well for Brandon. He has put in 110 percent for this camp,” Durandt, the winner of the 2023 Boxing South Africa Manager of the Year award, said.
Durandt added: “He’s been extremely disciplined and focused. He has pushed very hard. Brandon knows what’s at stake. He wants to become a world champion.”
Thysse, Durandt and assistant trainer, Andson Kazembe, are going to leave South Africa for France on Thursday next week.
Meanwhile, Thysse will be fighting for the first time since he stopped Roarke Knapp in the ninth round when they fought for the SA and World Boxing Council (WBC) Africa junior-middleweight titles at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, in March this year.
Thysse from Germiston goes to the Prat fight carrying a professional record of 20 victories, 14 knockouts, four losses and a draw.
On the other hand, the 27-year-old Prat, who has 30 wins with 23 stoppages and a single defeat, last fought when he defeated Tanzanian boxer, Amiri Rashidi Matumla, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, in June. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
