Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler and his Kaizer Chiefs counterpart Stuart Baxter have differed on how they saw the DStv Premiership match the two sides played at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday.

Each coach believes that his club did well during the match except that they were goal-shy something which resulted in the clash ending in a goalless draw.

The two sides went into the match after they were bundled out of the Nedbank Cup. The Citizens were knocked out by Royal AM on Sunday while Amakhosi lost to TS Galaxy a day before.

“I thought it was a very, very tough game. Both teams coming off losses in the Nedbank Cup and both teams wanting to restart the league on a positive. And I think both teams were very, very well structured defensively,” Tinkler remarked.

“Did not give anything away, both us and them. I don’t think offensively we were at our best. Our first touch let us down, our transitional play wasn’t quick enough and because of that, we allowed Chiefs to organise themselves. And because they play with a back five, they became difficult to penetrate and break down. But we created situations, I thought we created better situations than them.”

On the other hand, Baxter insisted that Amakhosi were better and they controlled the match. Baxter also insisted that their performance was better than when they lost to the Rockets.

“Yeah, I think we had good control of the game until probably the last 10, 15 minutes. And I think because we had good control of the game, we did create chances without really hitting the target,” Baxter said.

“I think we were the ones who should go and win the game. We had a couple of changes to make, and then you lose shape. We then pushed on, we left ourselves open, we conceded a couple of dangerous situations where we defended bravely. All in all, I thought it was a better performance, it was a controlled performance.”
