Peter Shalulile scored a hattrick as Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Swallows FC 4-2 in a DStv Premiership encounter at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Wednesday evening.
The Brazilians took the lead through Namibian international Shalulile in the 10th minute. Shalulile scored his 16th goal of the season when he headed past Swallows goalkeeper Thela Thela following George Maluleka’s cross.
Maluleka turned provider once again when he fed Shalulile to score his 17th goal to make it 2-0 in the 15th minute.
A minute later, Dillan Solomons halved the deficit when he pulled one back for the low flying Dube Birds.
Sundowns continued to attack and their efforts were rewarded when Surprise Ralani made it 3-1 in the 28th minute.
Ruzaigh Gamildien scored Swallows’ second goal a minute from full-time after he rose high to head Kamohelo Mahlatsi’s cross past Sundowns goalminder Reyaad Pieterse.
Immediately after that, Shalulile completed his hattrick after Thela failed to hold on to the ball following Themba Zwane’s attempt on the stroke of full-time.
The defending DStv Premiership champions, who are on top of the log, have now collected 54 points from 24 matches.
