Royal AM will come up against three-time Nedbank Cup champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals of the competition later this month.
This comes after Thwihli Thwahla beat the University of Pretoria 3-2 in a quarter-final clash at a rainy Chatsworth Stadium in Durban on Sunday afternoon. Sundowns whipped KwaZulu-Natal ABC Motsepe League champions Summerfield Dynamos 5-0 in Pretoria on Saturday.
The John Maduka-coached Thwihli Thwahla came from 2-0 down to snatch the win when Mfundo Thikazi netted right at the death.
Wonderboy Makhubu gave AmaTuks the lead in the 19th minute. Eight minutes later, Makhubu completed his brace as he doubled the lead.
Thwihli Thwahla pulled one back after Victor Letsoalo netted from the penalty spot in the 58th minute. Letsoalo levelled matters when he scored his second goal of the match 11 minutes from full-time.
Thikazi ensured that the match didn’t go to extra time when he netted Thwihli Thwahla’s winning goal in added time.
Meanwhile, GladAfrica Championship side Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila are going to play against Marumo Gallants in another Nedbank Cup semi-final match.
TTM beat SuperSport United 3-2 at the Thohoyandou Stadium in Venda on Friday evening while Gallants defeated their neighbours Baroka FC 1-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday.
