Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer is pushing forward with his Buccaneers following a 2-0 win over Cape Town City in a DStv Premiership match at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Tuesday evening.
The Buccaneers raced to a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game through goals by Deon Hotto and Vincent Pule.
Pirates have lost once – to Lamontville Golden Arrows – in their last five matches. They have, in the process, won three times and drawn once.
“We don’t go back, we go forward. It was very good, the first half was really good,” Zinnbauer said.
“Second half we waited for the right moment and we played counter attack. We had lots of opportunities for the next goal. At the end of the day we deserve this.”
The Buccaneers are now going to start preparing for their CAF Confederation Cup match against Botswana club Jwaneng Galaxy. The match is going to be played at the Botswana National Stadium on Sunday (15h00).
Meanwhile, Citizens coach Jan Olde Riekerink has admitted that they have a problem defensive wise.
The Citizens have conceded 23 goals and scored 26 in 15 matches.
“It’s going with the players we have. We have a lot of players with creativity and strength. But at the moment I can blame the team, especially in the first half. It took a long time for us to find the right pockets,” the Dutchman said.
“The moment you lose the ball if you have creative attacking players and you lose the ball most of the time you are also in a defensive way less organised. It’s not always about the quality of the defenders. We hope to lose the ball less in dangerous positions.”
The Citizens are going to remain in Gauteng and prepare for Saturday’s DStv Premiership match against SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.
