Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has insisted that her players didn’t have a good first half even though they are through to the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament following a 1-0 win over Zambia at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco, on Monday evening.

Linda Motlhalo scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot after Jermaine Seoposenwe was fouled inside the box in added time.

Banyana are going to play against hosts Morocco in the final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Saturday. The Atlas Lionesses reached the final after they defeated the Nigerian Super Falcons 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in two hours of footbalI.

“We wanted to start really well. We wanted to rotate the ball quicker, but it didn’t happen in the first half. Our attacking midfielders were not available to make us play. It was very frustrating. We got counter attacked a few times,” Ellis remarked after the match against the Copper Queens.

“We then made changes in the second half. We started playing. We got a penalty. Zambia showed true quality, but we wanted it very bad. In the end we won.”

This is Banyana’s fifth final having lost three times to the Super Falcons and twice to Equatorial Guinea in the past.
