Jubilant football fans converged at the OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park to welcome back triumphant Banyana Banyana on Tuesday morning.
Banyana returned home after they annexed the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations trophy following a 2-1 win over hosts Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Saturday evening.
Led by their award-winning coach Desiree Ellis, Banyana won the tournament without losing a single match.
The ever-resilient Banyana won the WAFCON tournament after being bridesmaids on five occasions. They lost three cup finals to the Nigerian Super Falcons and twice to Equatorial Guinea.
