Jeff Magagane will attempt to succeed where nine boxers failed when he clashes with Asanda Gingqi later this month.
Magagane is set to challenge Gingqi for his South African featherweight title at the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein, Johannesburg, on Sunday, 25 September.
Already, unbeaten Gingqi has made two successful defences since winning the SA title in a fight against Abdul-Aziz Kunert in September last year. He defeated Sithembiso Maduna in March and Zolisa Batyi just over three months ago.
“I’m going to take that title from Gingqi. I have to win this fight,” Magagane, who is trained by Alan Toweel, remarked.
This is going to be more like a grudge fight for Magagane as Gingqi defeated him when they were still in the amateur ranks.
“I know him very well. We represented the national team together. My last amateur fight was against him and he defeated me. But he won’t do that this time around. Experience counts. I have been a professional boxer for seven years now,” Magagane said.
The 31-year-old Magagane from Power Park in Soweto has 15 victories with four knockouts and five defeats.
