Chippa United’s second half fight back was not enough as they were beaten 3-2 by Lamontville Golden Arrows in a DStv Premiership encounter at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu, Durban, on Saturday afternoon.
Abafana Bes’thende led 3-0 at half-time through goals by Ntsikelelo Nxadi, Nduduzo Sibiya and Pule Mmodi.
Arrows broke the deadlock through Nxadi’s header in the 18th minute. Nxadi beat Chilli Boys defender Justice Chabalala to the ball.
Chabalala pushed Knox Mutizwa and referee Cedric Muvhali pointed to the penalty spot. Sibiya made no mistake as he converted the penalty to make it 2-0 in the 23rd minute.
Mmodi scored Abafana Bes’thende’s third goal after he was fed by Mutizwa four minutes before the half-time break.
The Chilli Boys came back stronger in the second half attacking their opponents. Their efforts were rewarded with Etiosa Ighodaro’s goal in the 62nd minute.
Five minutes later, Ronald Pfumbidzai scored the Chilli Boys’ second goal and lifted his team’s hopes of stealing a point. But it was never to be as Arrows emerged victorious.
