Improved relations between top boxing trainers Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan and Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye have brought a smile to Teris Ntutu.
The Rumble Africa Promotions (RAP) chairman revealed his happiness about the relationship between Nathan and Njekanye as South Africa is still celebrating Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga’s International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title victory over Mexican boxer Hector Flores in Hermosillo, Sorona, Mexico on Sunday morning (South African time).
There were tensions between the two trainers after former South African featherweight champion Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile bolted out of Njekanye’s stable to join Nathan.
Fuzile has since returned to Njekanye and they worked together when the Duncan Village-born southpaw lost to Japanese boxer Kenichi Ogawa in a vacant IBF junior-lightweight title fight in November last year.
“We are grateful to our partner Colin. You know even with Azinga he was doing well. Some people got in-between him and Azinga’s trainers,” Ntutu said.
“But I’m happy now that Colin and Chief are talking. Chief even wished Colin and Sive well before the fight. This is something we must talk about because you find that some people were enjoying it when there were tensions between Colin and Chief. These people need to know that the tension between the two guys is not there anymore.”
Meanwhile, 26-year-old Fuzile might make a ring return soon as there are plans for him to fight against an overseas opponent.
