Boxing fans converged at the King Phalo Airport in East London to welcome home International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga on Thursday afternoon.
Nontshinga touched down in East London for the first time since he captured the world title following a split decision victory over Mexican boxer Hector Flores at the Centro de Usos Multiples in Hermosillo, Sorona, Mexico on Sunday morning (South African time).
The 23-year-old Nontshinga, who was accompanied by his trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan, was welcomed back home by Rumble Africa Promotions (RAP) bosses, Eastern Cape MEC for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Nonceba Kontsiwe and Boxing South Africa (BSA) manager in the province Phakamile Jacobs.
A motorcade left the airport enroute to the City Hall where speeches are going to be delivered.
The first IBF champion from South Africa Welcome Ncita as well as former IBF junior-bantamweight and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bantamweight titlist Zolani Tete are scheduled to deliver speeches.
