Jackie Brice is both happy and relieved after the sanctioning committee of Boxing South Africa (BSA) sanctioned his tournament scheduled for Sunday, 16 October.
Brice’s tournament is going to be headlined by a South African junior-lightweight title fight between current champion Lunga ‘Pressure Cooker’ Sitemela and Khanyile Bulana.
“The tournament is going ahead. I’ve got the sanctioning letter from BSA. I still have to meet the SABC because we need TV in Cape Town,” Brice said.
The Jackie Brice Boxing Promotions boss is also grateful to Western Cape BSA provincial manager Mzoli Tempi for the role he played in making sure that his tournament got sanctioned.
“I must say that the local PM has helped me a hell of a lot. I’m grateful for everything he has done for me,” Brice remarked.
Meanwhile, Dordrecht-born Sitemela will be making the first defence of the title he won against Sibusiso Zingange in Johannesburg four months ago.
On the other hand, this is going to be East London-based Bulana’s first fight in more than 12 months. Bulana hasn’t fought since his first round loss to Italian Michael Magnesi when he challenged for the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-lightweight title in Italy in April last year.
