A great performance by Themba Zwane during Bafana Bafana’s 4-0 win over Sierra Leone in an international friendly match in Johannesburg on Saturday has forced national team coach Hugo Broos to see the folly of his ways.
Broos had consistently overlooked Zwane despite the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder dishing out match-winning performances for his team.
The Belgian grudgingly called Zwane for the two international friendly matches against the Leone Stars and Botswana. And the 33-year-old Zwane didn’t disappoint as he capped his performance with a brace.
“I’m not a coach who’s got special mention for players. What Themba Zwane did was great. Hopefully, he’s the missing link in our team,” Broos said.
“A guy who can keep the ball. A guy who can give his passes, a guy who can score. I’m very happy. Themba showed that he deserves his position in the team.”
The former Cameroon national team coach insisted that he expects Bafana to dish out the same performance when they clash with Botswana on Tuesday.
“We will be happy again on Tuesday evening after the game against Botswana. I expect from the players the same mentality, the same performance,” Broos remarked.
