India defeated the Proteas by eight wickets in the first Twenty20 international at the Greenshields International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram, on Wednesday.
A third-wicket partnership between Kannaur Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav, which produced 93 runs propelled the Indians to victory after they knocked 110 for two. Rahul knocked 51 runs while Yadav scored 50.
It took India 16.4 overs to beat the Proteas, who were bowled out for 106 in 20 overs.
Keshav Maharaj top scored for the Proteas with 41 while Aiden Markram hit 25 and Wayne Parnell scored 24 runs.
