Asemahle ‘Predator’ Wellem is a happy young man after he wrote his name in boxing history books when he won a South African title in only his fourth professional fight.
A brave Wellem stopped Cowin Ray in the fourth round to win the SA super-middleweight title at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria on Saturday evening.
Wellem overwhelmed Ray with a flurry of blows and forced referee Simon Mokadi to stop the fight in one minute and 45 seconds in the fourth round.
“I’m very excited to have won the fight. I knew I was going to win the fight even though it was tough fighting against Cowin. There were moments when he caught me with heavy blows,” Wellem, who is trained by Vusi Mtolo, said.
Wellem, who made his professional debut in July last year, became the fastest boxer to win an SA title in less than a month of being rated and is also the first champion from Chintsa.
Meanwhile, the 21-year Wellem revealed that he might be back in the ring later this month.
“It looks like I might fight again on the 30th of this month. However, I’m not entirely sure at the moment,” an excited Wellem said.
Well done predator
