South Africa A coach Malibongwe Maketa will lead the Proteas during their three-match Test series against Australia in December and January.
The 42-year-old Maketa’s appointment was announced by Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Wednesday morning. Maketa from Zwelitsha, Qonce, in the Eastern Cape is not new to the Proteas set-up having worked as their assistant coach between 2017 and 2019.
He takes over the coaching of the Proteas as their current coach Mark Boucher is going to step down at the end of the Twenty20 World Cup currently underway in Australia.
The Proteas are going to face Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane from 17-21 December. The second Test will start at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, from 26-30 December. The third and final Test is scheduled to take place from 4-8 January 2023 and is going to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney.
