Japanese boxer Kosei Tanaka outpointed Yanga ‘Showtime’ Sigqibo from East London, South Africa, in a 10 rounds junior-bantamweight bout at the Takeda Teva Ocean Arena in Nagoya, Japan, on Sunday.
Fight judges Yoshikazu Furuta and Toshio Sugiyama had Takana winning by 97-93 while Hitoshi Sakaitani scored the fight 98-92 for the former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) minimumweight, junior-flyweight and flyweight champion.
Tanaka has improved his record to 18 wins (10 stoppages) and a defeat. On the other hand, Sigqibo dropped to 17 victories (five knockouts), two losses and a draw.
This was the 28-year-old Sigqibo’s first loss in more than seven years. Sigqibo’s last loss was in a fight against Ayanda Ndulani, the reigning International Boxing Organisation (IBO) minimumweight champion, in March 2015.
