It was a fight, which was meant to determine who’s the best boxer between Jackson ‘M3’ Chauke and Phumelela ‘Truth’ Cafu as they traded blows at the Orient Theatre in East London on Friday evening.
And in the end, it was the 24-year-old Cafu’s hand, which was raised as he defeated Chauke by a split decision. Judges Simphiwe Tom and Lulama Mtya had Cafu winning by 109-119 and 113-118 respectively while Siphiwo Mbini gave Chauke the fight by 115-113.
The result meant that Cafu from Duncan Village became the second boxer to beat the 37-year-old Chauke, who lost for the first time since his loss to the late Lwandile Sityata in April 2013.
Meanwhile, Siphesihle Sityo became the new Eastern Cape minimumweight champion after he stopped Phumlani Maloni in the sixth round in the main supporting bout.
