Lesotho-born coach Lehlohonolo Seema has done what he was asked to do – save Chippa United from relegation – and he does not know what the future holds for him at the Gqeberha-based Premiership side.
The Chilli Boys survived relegation by the skin of their teeth after they were held to a goalless draw by Lamontville Golden Arrows in a DStv Premiership encounter at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday afternoon.
Coach Seema’s boys, who amassed 30 points from 30 games, were stone last on the Premiership standings before they engaged Abafana Bes’thende in what was one of their most important matches.
“I was asked to come and be in charge for four games. After four games, it’s done. What’s happening in the next three, four, five days, I don’t know. I still have to hear the wayforward,” Seema said.
The former Lesotho national team captain, who is turning 43 next month, collected four out of a possible 12 points in the matches he led the Chilli Boys. The four points proved to be key to ensuring that the Chilli Boys survived and continued being a Premiership side.
The Eastern Cape side’s coming back from 2-0 down to beat Richards Bay FC 3-2 in a DStv Premiership match was a turning point in their quest for survival.
“For me as long as I work in football, I will help where I can, where I’m wanted. We won the safety passage against Richards Bay,” Seema, a former Arrows and Black Leopards coach, remarked.
