Zolisa Batyi is set to go straight to his opponent Abdul-Aziz Kunert’s backyard as he attempts to make a successful first defence of his South African featherweight title.
Batyi and Kunert are scheduled to square up against each other at a soon-to-be-announced venue in Cape Town on Friday, 25 August. Initially, this bout was set to be held in Johannesburg on Friday next week, however, the fight failed to materialise after Kunert didn’t sign the contract.
Now the good news is that Cape Town-born Kunert has signed the August fight contract and this bout is going to be promoted by Savva Savvas’ Insane Boxing Promotions.
“We are going to Cape Town next month. We are going to knock out someone there,” Batyi from Nxarhuni said.
Batyi won the title after he stopped former champion Jeff Magagane in the second round at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sports Complex in Seshego, Polokwane, in December last year.
Meanwhile, this is going to be the second time that Kunert, who is rated number one in South Africa, attempts to win the SA featherweight title.
Kunert failed in his first attempt as he lost to Asanda Gingqi on points when they fought for the then vacant title in Johannesburg almost two years ago.
