The name Moroka Swallows FC is back in South African top-flight football as Soweto side Swallows FC announced that they will go back to the old name.
The Dube Birds have been using the name Swallows FC after the new owners inherited debt from the time of Leon Prins as the club owed Brazilian Igor Alves more than R500 000. Alves played for Swallows between 2008 and 2011.
“Swallows Football Club will officially be referred to as Moroka Swallows FC from today,” a Swallows statement said on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Dube Birds are going to play five DStv Premiership matches in Bloemfontein this coming season.
