It became a bridge too far as Sabelo Ngebiyana fell short, getting stopped by unbeaten David Alan Picasso Romero at the Arroyo Restaurant in Mexico City, Mexico, on Sunday morning (South African time).
The Mexican overwhelmed Ngebiyana and it became a matter of time before he finally stopped him in the sixth round to win the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver junior-featherweight title.
This was a second stoppage loss for Komani-born Ngebiyana in less than a year. He was stopped by Namibian Fillipus Nghitumbwa in the 11th round during a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Global junior-featherweight title fight at the Ramatex Hall in Windhoek, Namibia, in October last year.
Romero has improved his record to 25 victories with 14 knockouts and a draw while the former South African junior-bantamweight champion dropped to 15 wins, seven losses and one draw.
