Unacceptable high crime levels in South Africa have resulted in former South African female lightweight champion Kholosa Ndobayini being admitted at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Diepkloof, Soweto, after she was mugged by thugs last week.
Ndobayini, who stays in Zola, Soweto, was mugged while on her way home from the gym in Meadowlands. She’s now nursing a fractured left arm and receiving treatment in hospital.
“She got hurt after she was mugged while coming from the gym last Wednesday evening. The thugs beat her up as they wanted her cellphone. She’s still in hospital. The most important thing is that she’s still alive,” Ndobayini’s trainer Charrit Mukondeleli said on Monday,
Qumbu-born Ndobayini was looking forward to a fight against Raider Muleba where she was hoping to reclaim the SA female lightweight title. Ndobayini controversially lost her SA title to Muleba at the Nkowankowa Sports Centre, Tzaneen, in November last year.
According to Mukondeleli, it took Boxing South Africa (BSA) manager in Limpopo Tinyiko Nkatingi 45 minutes to tally the score cards after Ndobayini’s fight against Muleba.
