Prince Dlomo retained his South African junior-welterweight title in front of his home fans at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall on Friday evening.
Pietermaritzburg-born Dlomo, who celebrates his 34th birthday on Saturday, defeated challenger Marcus Lebogo on points to make a fourth successive defence of his title.
There was a scare when an accidental clash of heads in the third round resulted in Lebogo getting a cut above his right eye. However, Lebogo’s corner managed to make sure that the cut didn’t trouble him.
A dazed and hurt Lebogo was saved by the bell, which signalled the end of the sixth round, as he was being pummelled by Dlomo. Lebogo held on until the last round as Dlomo dominated the fight.
