Veteran South African boxer Tshifhiwa ‘Atomic Spider’ Munyai has a date with Russian opponent Emir Basirov in Almetyevsk, Russia, on Saturday, 23 September.
The 38-year-old Munyai from Makwarela, Limpopo, will be fighting for the first time since he stopped Malawian opponent Crispin Moliat in December last year.
This will also be the first fight since Munyai, a former SA lightweight and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-featherweight titlist, moved from Alan Toweel to Warren Hulley.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Basirov will go to the Munyai bout on the back of a second round stoppage victory over Venezuelan Esneiker Jesus Correa Pinto in June.
Basirov will be fighting against a South African boxer for the third time having beaten Gift Bholo in March and Rofhiwa Maemu in September last year.
The Nizhnekamsk-based Basirov stopped Bholo in the fifth round at the USC Soviet Wings, Moscow, and his fight against Maemu ended in the second round at the Vegas City Hall in Krasnogorsk.
