Christopher Sibonde has claimed that Nhlanhla ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ Tyirha is looking for a new promotional home as he feels that he needs more fights under his belt.
Sibonde told Ink Sport that he has been mandated by Tyirha’s handlers to help find a promotional home for the Mdantsane boxer. But Thembelani ‘Shakes’ Hlombe, who’s the manager at Paradise Boxing Club where Tyirha trains, has disputed Sibonde’s claim about being sent to go look for a new promotional home for the former South African junior-flyweight champion.
“Yes, I have written a few letters looking for a promotional agency for Tyirha. I met Tyirha’s handlers and they told me that he needs fights. They asked me to reach out to other people so that he can get more fights,” Sibonde said.
Contacted for comment, Hlombe said: “No, we have never asked him to go look for a new promotions company. Maybe he’s doing that on his own.”
Tyirha has fought twice – once under Two Promotions and another fight under Rumble Africa Promotions (RAP) – since leaving Xaba Promotions last year.
He defeated Pinoy boxer Orlie Silvestre in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental junior-flyweight title fight in October last year and was stopped by Malawian George Kandulo in July this year.
