Just over three months after losing his South African minimumweight title to Siyakholwa Kuse in a rematch at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC), Bangile Nyangani has decided to move up one division to junior-flyweight.
The news of Nyangani’s decision to move up to the junior-flyweight division was announced by the boxer’s trainer Alan Toweel.
“Bangile has moved up from mini-flyweight to junior-flyweight. He can’t make the mini-flyweight. He can’t fight at mini-flyweight even before the fight against Kuse, the weight was too tough,” Toweel announced.
The Johannesburg-based boxing trainer has predicted that Nyangani, who was born in Bityi, Mthatha, will still win titles even at a new division.
“It’s gonna be a new chapter for us. It’s a new chapter in boxing for him. He won titles, ABU SADC, WBA Pan-African and SA mini-flyweight. He wants to do the same at junior-flyweight,” Toweel remarked.
Nyangani was once rated inside the top 15 by the top four boxing bodies – the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organisation (WBO).
His defeat by Kuse from Mdantsane came at a huge price as he is now only rated by the WBC in 14th place.
