With his trip to Tanzania having been cancelled because of a leg injury, reigning South African featherweight champion Zolisa Batyi is hoping to get better so that he can start proper training.

Batyi was scheduled to square up against experienced Tanzanian boxer Nasibu Ramadhani Shemtendwa in Tanzania this coming Saturday. However, the fight was called off after the Nxarhuni-born boxer’s leg got swollen.

The cancelled bout against Shemtendwa was going to be Batyi’s first fight outside the borders of South Africa.

“I woke up in the morning with a swollen leg. It was scary because I was okay when I went to bed the previous night. I’m, however, happy to say that I’m getting better. The good thing is that I can exercise a little bit easier now. I hope to return to proper training soon,” Batyi said.

Meanwhile, Batyi last fought when he drew with Abdul-Azziz Kunert in his first defence of the national title in Bellville, Cape Town, in August.
