The Eastern Cape leg of the Rise of Women In Boxing series spearheaded by Boxing South Africa (BSA) is going to be launched at 11am on Tuesday.

Acting BSA chief executive officer Erick Nsikayezwe Sithole is scheduled to attend the launch at the Boardwalk Hotel and Convention Centre, Summerstrand, in Gqeberha.

The tournament, which is going to be promoted by Zantsi’s Showtime Productions of Mbali Zantsi, is set to take place at the Wells Estate Multipurpose Hall in Gqeberha on Saturday, 28 October.

This show will be headlined by a vacant South African female minimumweight title fight between Yonelisa Poni from Cacadu and Mdantsane’s Thobela Nyanda.

The main bout is a rematch after Nyanda, a nominee in the Female Prospect of the Year category at the South African Boxing Awards, scored a second round technical knockout victory over Poni when they met at the Ncumisa Kondlo Hall in Peddie in February this year.

The first tournament of the Rise of Women In Boxing series was held in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, in August this year. The series then moved to the North West, Limpopo, Gauteng and it’s going to Mpumalanga this coming Sunday.
