After losing to unbeaten Russian boxer Vadim Tukov in Russia two months ago, John ‘Section 29’ Bopape will lace his gloves again when he clashes with Patrick Mukala from the Democratic Republic of Congo next month.
The reigning South African middleweight champion and Mukala are going to fight against each other in an international bout on Saturday, 9 December.
Bopape, who hails from Alexandra in Johannesburg, has defended his SA title twice twice since dethroning former champion Nkululeko Mhlongo in April last year. However, his national title won’t be at stake when he clashes with the Congolese.
The 32-year-old Bopape’s last six fights ended prematurely with him winning five of them and then losing once to Tukov. Bopape takes a record of 14 victories (13 knockouts) and nine defeats to the Mukala fight.
On the other hand, Mukala will go to the Bopape showdown on the back of a fourth round technical knockout win over former SA junior-middleweight title contender Yanga Phetani in December last year.
The 29-year-old Congolese, who is based in Johannesburg, has 14 wins (13 stoppages), two losses and a draw.
