Unbeaten Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga is going to challenge world champion Felix Alvarado from Nicaragua.
Nontshinga earned the right to challenge the reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight champion after he defeated a tough Christian ‘The Bomb’ Araneta in an elimination bout at the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino in Gqeberha on Saturday evening.
The 22-year-old Nontshinga won by a unanimous decision against the Filipino. However, it has to be said that Araneta was indeed a formidable opponent, who took as much as he gave during the fight. Araneta even decked Nontshinga in the last round, but that was way too late to change the course of the fight as the East London boxer had already done his job.
Nontshinga has won all his 10 fights with nine of those victories being stoppages while Araneta dropped to 19 wins with 15 knockouts and two losses.
Ironically, Araneta suffered his two losses in IBF junior-flyweight elimination bouts outside the Philippines. He was stopped by Mexican boxer Daniel Valladares in Monterey, Mexico, in 2019.
Meanwhile, battle-scarred warrior Jackson ‘M3’ Chauke used his experience to outpoint Luyanda ‘Prettyboy’ Ntwanambe on the same bill.
Chauke’s experience came in handy as he successfully defended his South African title and also won the vacant WBO Global flyweight belt.
Ntwanambe started well taking the fight to Chauke and showing him no respect. However, things changed after the sixth round as Chauke upped his game on his way to winning the bout.
In another fight, Yanga ‘Showtime’ Sigqibo scored a victory over Jerald Paclar from the Philippines during a WBO Intercontinental junior-bantamweight title fight.
