Following his sensational first round stoppage win over Enathi Stelle almost two months ago, Phumelela ‘The Truth’ Cafu from Duncan Village in East London now wants to test his fistic skills in a world title contest and failure to do so will force him to move up two divisions.
It took Cafu only 26 seconds to despatch Stelle from Mdantsane and in the process won the then vacant South African junior-bantamweight title. And he now believes that he’s ready to swim with the sharks.
“It’s important for me to get a world title shot at junior-bantamweight this year. I will definitely move up should I fail to fight for a world title this year. I have been fighting in the junior-bantamweight division for two years now. Sometimes I feel like it drains me thus I cannot be a junior-bantamweight boxer for two more years. I will move straight to junior-featherweight because I believe I can remain there for at least for five years,” Cafu said.
The unbeaten Cafu is rated ninth by the World Boxing Council (WBC), sixth in the World Boxing Association (WBA) ratings and is 12th in the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) standings.
Meanwhile, Cafu has revealed that he called out WBO Global titlist Sikho Nqothole from Mthatha because he wanted to show him who is the boss in the junior-bantamweight division. It, however, doesn’t look like the fight will ever happen.
“This is not about Nqothole. I just wanted to show him who is the king in the South African junior-bantamweight division,” Cafu said.
