Former world champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga and his team have arrived in Mexico ahead of his rematch against Mexican boxer Adrian Curiel Dominguez on Friday (Saturday morning, South African time).

Nontshinga together with his trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan, his father Thembani ‘Best’ Gopheni and cutman Bernie Pailman arrived in the Central Anerican country on Monday evening (Tuesday morning, South African time) and then proceeded to Oaxaca in southern Mexico.

This fight, which will see Nontshinga attempting to reclaim the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title wrestled away from him by Dominguez via a second round stoppage in November last year, is going to be held at the Guelaguetza Auditorium in Oaxaca.

The fight venue is an open air 11 175-seater auditorium, which is situated on a hillside above the city of Oaxaca. The Guelaguetza Auditorium was built in 1974 and then reconstructed in 2009.

And after winning the title during a fight against Mexican Hector Flores early in September 2022, Nontshinga successfully defended the crown once against Regie Suganob from the Philippines at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) last July before surrendering it to Dominguez in Monaco.
