If Filipino boxing trainer Julius Erving Junco can have his way, his boxer Christian ‘The Bomb’ Araneta would challenge newly-crowned International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga in the Philippines.
However, Junco will have to wait and hear what the 25-year-old Nontshinga’s next move would be now that he meted out some revenge on his November conqueror Adrian Curiel Dominguez whom he stopped in the 10th round at the Guelaguetza Auditorium in Oaxaca, Mexico, on Saturday morning (South African time).
“Yes, we would love to get that rematch. We are currently ranked first in IBF. I would love to have the fight in the Philippines, that is my personal opinion,” Junco said.
If it happens that Nontshinga and Araneta clash, then it would be the second time the two pugilists collide. Nontshinga defeated Araneta on points when they met in an IBF elimination bout at the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino in Gqeberha in April 2021.
Meanwhile, Araneta from Cebi is fresh from a first round stoppage victory over his compatriot Arvin Magramo last month.
