One of the most promising boxers ever to grace the ring and a regular feature at the Orient Theatre, Nhlanhla ’24’ Ngamntwini, from Duncan Village in East London has passed away.

Popularly known as ’24’ among boxing followers, Ngamntwini passed away on Tuesday. Ngamntwini was admitted at Frere Hospital with a leg problem.

The late prominent promoter Mzimasi Mnguni, who loved Ngamntwini once explained why he was called ’24’. It was because of his weight in earlier years that Ngamntwini earned the moniker.

His most memorable fight was a vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Intercontinental minimumweight title contest, which he lost to Simphiwe Konkco in December 2014.

Ngamntwini’s last fight was a second round technical knockout victory Mzwabantu Mbhexeshi in September 2019.
