Filipino boxer Joey Canoy and his trainer Ronerex Dalut left their homeland for East London on Saturday.
Canoy, who is making his fifth trip to South Africa, is going to fight against former South African champion Nhlanhla Tyirha. The two boxers fight for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Intercontinental junior-flyweight title at East London’s International Convention Convention Centre (ICC) on Friday, 21 May.
Canoy is still chasing his first win in South Africa having lost twice to Hekkie Budler and Nkosinathi Joyi with the other bout against Simphiwe Konkco being a no contest.
Meanwhile, Joyi is going to defend his International Boxing Organisation (IBO) minimumweight belt against Ayanda Ndulani while Siphamandla Baleni and Nwabisile Colani clash in a vacant SA junior-flyweight title fight.
