South African footballers and coaches dominated at the inagural COSAFA awards as they walked away with seven of the gongs on offer during a ceremony held in Johannesburg on Thursday evening.
Al Ahly star Percy Tau won the best Men’s Player of the Year gong with Mamelodi Sundowns goalminder Ronwen Williams taking home the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year award.
On the other hand, Williams’ Sundowns teammate Thapelo Maseko won the Men’s Most Promising Player (aged Under-20) award and Andile Dlamini took the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year gong.
Meanwhile, Sundowns mentor Rulani Mokwena was the recipient of the Men’s Coach of the Year award and his Banyana Banyana counterpart Desiree Ellis won the Women’s Coach of the Year gong with retired match official Victor Gomes taking home the Referee Legend award.
