Eastern Cape boxer Theo Nxayiphi will have home advantage when he challenges for the South African flyweight title, which is held by Nkosingiphile Sibisi from KwaZulu-Natal.

Nxayiphi is set to collide with Sibisi, who won the then vacant SA title after he outpointed Trevor Nghonyama in Estcourt in March.

Promoted by Hlulukwenza Dladla’s Hlula Dladla Boxing Promotions, Sibisi had already been ordered by Boxing South Africa (BSA) to make a mandatory defence of the title.

“I contacted the Sibisi camp and I spoke to Dladla, the promoter of the boy. He acknowledged the fact that he received the challenge and he asked if we could do the fight,” Nxayiphi’s manager Mlandeli Tengimfene said.

“The ball is in our court now and we have to make an offer to the champion. We will push the fight to be held here in East London around July or beginning of August. It’s great that they were willing to work with us.”

Nxayiphi has eight wins, three losses and three draws and he defeated Lutho Gungutho on points in his last fight held at the Whittlesea Multipurpose Hall, Sada, in December. On the other hand, Sibisi has won all his seven fights with two of those wins being stoppages. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
