Next weekend’s fight between Aphiwe ‘Swagger’ Mboyiya and Lindokuhle ‘Hitman’ Dlamini is in serious doubt after the sanctioning committee of Boxing South Africa (BSA), which is made up of Irvin Buhlalu, Tinyiko Nkatingi, Masibulele Makepula and Droeks Malan, refused to sanction bout.

The committee refused to sanction the bout because the fight is “not evenly-matched” as Mboyiya, a former SA featherweight and junior-lightweight champion, is more experienced compared to Dlamini.

Mboyiya, an Eastern Cape junior-welterweight champion, has won 18 times with nine knockouts, six defeats and a draw. On the other hand, Dlamini has four wins (two stoppages), two losses and a draw.

The news has forced Kay B Promotions boss Mzi Booi to make an appeal to the sanctioning commitee to reconsider the decision not to approve the fight.

“We wish to state that precautionary measures are in place with medical personnel and services will be at the venue, very experienced panel of officials including the fight supervisor. We are, therefore, requesting the sanctioning committee to reconsider their decision and we appeal for approval of the fight,” Booi said.

Meanwhile, Dlamini from Empangeni drew with Sipho Mahlangu in an African Boxing Union (ABU) SADC junior-welterweight title fight in August this year.

Dlamini, who is trained by Sizwe Mthembu is a former KwaZulu-Natal junior-welterweight and welterweight titlist.
