With next weekend’s fight against Lindokuhle ‘Hitman’ Dlamini hanging in the balance, Aphiwe ‘Swagger’ Mboyiya’s handlers tried to match him against Sibusiso Zingange.

However, that didn’t bear any fruits as Zingange, a former South African junior-lightweight champion, turned down an offer for a third fight against Mboyiya, which was scheduled for the Orient Theatre in East London on Saturday, 23 November.

“Yes, they offered me the fight. I declined the offer because it was at short notice. I couldn’t take the fight on less than two weeks’ notice,” Zingange said.

The organisers of next weekend’s tournament – Kay B Promotions – found themselves in a spin after the sanctioning committee of Boxing South Africa (BSA), which is made up of Irvin Buhlalu, Tinyiko Nkatingi, Masibulele Makepula and Droeks Malan refused to sanction a fight between Mboyiya and Dlamini.

The committee refused to sanction the bout because the fight is “not evenly-matched” as Mboyiya, a former SA featherweight and junior-lightweight champion, is more experienced compared to Dlamini.

Mboyiya, an Eastern Cape junior-welterweight champion, has won 18 times with nine knockouts, six defeats and a draw. On the other hand, Dlamini has four wins (two stoppages), two losses and a draw. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
