KwaZulu-Natal-based promoter Hlulukwenza Dladla has changed his mind on a purse bid for the proposed South African featherweight title contest between his boxer Lindelani Sibisi and reigning champion Zolisa Batyi.
Dladla wrote to Boxing South Africa (BSA) last week asking the regulator to call for a purse bid after he failed to agree with Batyi’s promoter Mzi Booi from Kay B Promotions.
This was after Booi had sent to Dladla and Sibisi, who is rated number one, a contract for a fight against Batyi. However, Team Sibisi never signed the contract for the fight which Booi had pencilled for the Orient Theatre in East London on Wednesday, 30 April next year.
Instead, Dladla sent a counter contract asking Batyi to sign for a title defence against Sibisi in KwaZulu-Natal in February. That didn’t go down well with Batyi’s handlers as he had already signed with Kay B Promotions.
“I request to withdraw and retract my request to BSA for intervention. We shall structure an international route for Lindelani Sibisi,” Dladla said in a letter to Booi.
Dladla also copied BSA director of operations Mandla Ntlanganiso as well as the regulator’s technical assistant Mncedisi Ngqumba in the letter. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
