Boxing trainer Spokes Witbooi and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) intercontinental junior-bantamweight champion Yanga ‘Showtime’ Sigqibo have gone separate ways.
Witbooi and Sigqibo split following a fall out, which came as a result of the boxer’s unimpressive performance during a fight against Jerald Paclar from the Philippines in Gqeberha in April.
“Yes, I’m not training Yanga anymore. We decided to take different paths after we came back from Gqeberha. There are things, which are not permitted at my gym and I’m happy that he has chosen another stable,” Witbooi said without elaborating.
The Duncan Village boxer has since found a new home at Thembani Gopheni’s stable.
“Yanga is with us now,” Gopheni, who also trains his son and International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title hopeful Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga, confirmed.
