Experienced trainer Manny Fernandes doesn’t mind blowing his own horn as he believes that he has done enough in boxing to brag about his successes.
Just this past Saturday, Fernandes led International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-bantamweight champion Ricardo Malajika to a third successive defence of his title when he defeated Jayson Mama from the Philippines via a fifth round stoppage at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni.
“I’m on top of my game. I don’t think there’s anyone who can train fighters like I do at the moment. I know what I’m doing. With all the experience I have, I’m the best in the game. I’ve got good fighters who are disciplined,” Fernandes said.
“My success is there for everyone to see. I have the experience of having trained great fighters like Isaac Hlatshwayo, Malcolm Klassen, Takalani Ndlovu, Kaizer Mabuza, Oscar Chauke and Simon Ramoni. I’m good at what I’m doing.”
With the Malajika fight over now, Fernandes is turning his focus to Siyakholwa Kuse, who is preparing for his fight against Joey Canoy from the Philippines.
Kuse will be defending his World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver minimumweight title against Canoy at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday, 4 October. This fight will also serve as a WBC minimumweight elimination bout. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
